The way to sanity in the Workplace Revolution?

Turn it Off!

What is the flip side of the "anywhere, anytime" workplace? It's that work can also be "everywhere, all the time"!

Recently in Flexibility we reported the e-MORI/Toshiba survey which showed the extra productivity of laptop users - and the danger of letting the technology take over.

There is much advice on the Flexibility website about how to manage the location-independent workforce. For the individual there is also a need to manage their new-found flexibility effectively. One of the benefits of flexible working should be an increase in in autonomy - a greater ability to control one's working life.

But it's also possible that the opposite can happen. So the publication of a new book by telecommuting pioneer Gil Gordon is a timely reminder that there is life beyond work. Gil's advice is to learn both how to control the anywhere-anytime office, and how to get away from it.

As someone once said, "There are few of us whose last words would be, 'I wish I'd spent more time at the office' !"

Turn It Off is now available at Amazon.com and other online bookstores, and should be available in traditional bookstores as well.

TURN IT OFF is also being published by Nicholas Brealey Publishing for sale outside of the US and Canada. You can order the book at the Amazon.com UK site or place your order with the publisher.
