There's a revolution in
working practices going on. Some aspects of flexible working - like
flexitime - are not necessarily supported by new technologies. But the
ones affecting where we work, the way we work, and the way we communicate
at work are greatly affected by innovations in technology.
The Flexibility
philosophy is that technology on its own will not maximise the benefits
from new ways of working. Nor will personnel polices on their own, or
facilities redesign. But having an integrated change programme that
focuses on business objectives, involving all the disciplines, will
maximise the benefits.
Understanding what the
technology can do, however, is essential even (especially?) for those who
work in other fields.
