Managing Flexibility

Workshops from SwiftWork

In SwiftWork's experience, gained through helping all types of organisations across the UK, the group that needs the most support to help your company thrive on flexibility are the managers.

Faced with increasing demands to produce improved bottom-line results, managers feel constrained when responding to requests for increased flexibility from staff. Accordingly, they resort to behaviour that is “safe and sound” rather than “innovative and forward thinking”. Teams experimenting with new ways of working need to acquire some new ways of thinking!

Any training intervention needs to be part of an integrated programme of activity to embed the principles of Flexibility throughout the organisation. Top level support, appropriate measurement and enabling processes are critical for sustained long-term benefit. SwiftWork's approach accounts for all of these additional requirements but is also flexible enough to be integrated into existing change programmes.

The Managing Flexibility programme:

  • Understanding flexibility
  • The Pros and Cons of flexible working
  • How to balance Business Requirements with Employee Needs
  • Understanding the Employment Act and how to thrive on it!
  • Proven factors for success
  • The Virtuous Circle
  • Overcoming potential barriers
  • Determining your own needs
  • Clarifying the business process for creating flexibility
  • Case Studies
  • Practice (to bridge the “Knowing-Doing Gap”)
  • Develop your Action Plan .

In addition, Swiftwork also provides the following free as part of the programme:

  • A follow-up advice session to ensure your action plan is running smoothly and discuss any initial challenges you are facing
  • Membership of the Swiftwork Forum; an informal network made up of experienced practitioners, flexible working specialists and other people just like you that are from organisations currently trying to make flexible working work.
