Flexibility's Partners

Who are they and why are they interested?

Flexibility is a collaborative not-for-profit venture run by three companies specialising in flexible work, HOP Associates, Basis, Swiftwork and Peoplespace.

We are also joined by partners who sponsor particular events and publications.

Basis delivers improvements in outcomes and performance across the wider public sector. Since our formation in 1993 we have worked collaboratively with most central government departments, many executive agencies, local government and the health sector to realise significant tangible cost savings, achieve improvements in business delivery and develop sustainable capabilities.

Basis has developed and applied proven, innovative and creative methods for implementing new, smarter ways of working which deliver sustainable benefits for stakeholders and staff and significant cost savings for our clients. Our work has been featured in the Treasury exemplar case studies of best smart working practice “Without Walls” and “Beyond Walls”. Because our work is business-led, team centric and benefits driven, our clients have been able to reduce significantly accommodation and estate costs whilst at the same time:

  • enhance work space fitness for purpose,
  • improve business performance, responsiveness and continuity, and
  • transform work-life balance for staff.

Our preference is to work closely with our clients to maximise transfer of skills and understanding. We are able to provide training in our smart working methods to enable you to implement new working practices for yourselves with minimum support.

Our multi-disciplined team of change managers, programme and project managers, business analysts, occupational psychologists and HR specialists ensure that:

  • the “people issues” (which can so often lead to disappointment and failure) are addressed at the outset and throughout the analysis, design and implementation phases; and
  • the “enablers” (i.e. Estates, ICT/IM, HR and business managers) work cohesively together to deliver a congruent implementation programme.

Most recently, Basis has been developing and installing a resource optimisation toolkit to support smarter working practices by enabling our public sector clients to prioritise their work and identify potential savings whilst ensuring delivery is in direct alignment with organisational aims and stakeholders’ desired outcomes

HOP Associates, formerly publisher of Flexibility, is a consulting firm specialising in all aspects of "working in the information age".  In particular HOP unites the facilities, technology and human resource agendas of its clients around a shared vision of business transformation through technology and new ways of working.  HOP has invested in a number of IT-based tools to facilitate the business justification of radical change programmes.

SwiftWork is a specialist adviser in new ways of working, particularly flexible working, homeworking, remote and mobile working.

We provide:

  • A bespoke change management service to create a flexible culture and manage new ways of working
  • Direct or online e-learning training for managers and employees in managing flexible, mobile and remote or home working
  • Employee consultation and communications programmes

Swiftwork were suppliers to the DTI Work-Life Balance Challenge Fund and some of our projects have been selected as best practice case studies. For Project Nomad, the ODPM National Project for Mobile Working in Local Government, we were commissioned to provide all the HR, Management issues, Health and Safety and Financial issues resources

A number of Swiftwork clients have won awards as a direct result of applying our interventions and methodology. For example, Scottish Legal Aid Board won an Innovation Award and was winner of the LloydsTSB Scottish Employer of the year Award in 2005. Another client, North Ayrshire Council was one of three finalists in 2003. Wirral Social Services moved from ‘special measures’ to ‘Beacon Status’.

In 2006, Wrigley won a training award from the National Skills Council for it’s flexible working and personal effectiveness programme, developed by Swiftwork.
